Pontós is a small, discreet, peaceful, historic town in the heart of Empordà. Situated in a small valley amongst unique landscapes, its territory bears the marks of the ancient history of multiple civilisations that have passed through leaving chapels, churches, towers, sanctuaries and hundred-year-old castles. According to the items found in the Mas Castellar archaeological site, one of the most fruitful in the territory, its history started with Iberian settlements of the 6th Century AC.

It's most relevant history started with the arrival of the Greeks, establishing the Greek colony of Emporion (now Empúries), which created a gateway for the Ancient Greek and Latin civilisations on the peninsula.
The beauty of its landscapes and coastal regions attracts visitors from all over the world. Its main places of interest include archaeological sites like Empúries and Roses, ancient Roman monasteries like San Pere de Rodes and mediaeval towns like Peralada and Castelló, without forgetting interest in the art of Salvador Dalí, a universal Empordá native who put Figueres and Cadaqués on the map of important tourist hotspots.
